Albany Winter Blitz and Bughouse Open

Come join us for a fun afternoon of USCF-rated speed chess and unrated Bughouse, open to all! Players can choose to register for either or both tournaments.

Please register by Friday, January 10 and see check-in times below.

In the morning blitz section, from 10:30am to noon, players will face off in a rapid series of speed chess games with clocks set to 3 minutes with a 2 second increment per move. The tournament is open to players of all ages, and has cash prizes. Players must have a USCF membership to play. Special low-cost membership rates for scholastic players are available from Rose City Chess.

The bughouse (doubles chess) tournament starting at 1 in the afternoon is unrated, and open all players, no USCF membership required. In this popular chess variant, teams of 2 playing opposite colors will pass back and forth their opponent’s captured pieces, placing them on their own boards in lieu of moving a piece, in rapid-paced 5 minute timed games, until one player gets checkmate. Round-robin sections will be formed based on skill level, with teams competing for fun prizes and clout. Individual players without a teammate will have a chance to find a teammate or be assigned one at the event.

Cost: Blitz - $10; Bughouse $5 per player.
