CHESS FOR SUCCESS presents the Vangie Shaw Memorial Girls Play Chess Tournament–an open tournament for all K-8 aged girls. There will be sections formed if the number of entries are sufficient. Participants play five rounds that are roughly one hour each. The end time depends on how quickly the rounds go. Dress up and receive a chess necklace! T-shirts are available for purchase.
Note: this tournament is NOT rated with NWSRS and therefore is NOT a OSCF State Championship qualifier–but it is a fun chess tournament for K-8 girls!

WHY
Vangie Shaw was a beloved teacher and Chess for Success coach at Sabin K8 School in NE Portland. She passed away from complications from pancreatic cancer on Aug. 21, 2017, at the age of 57. This tournament is a memorial to Vangie and her legacy of sharing her love for the game with so many students. She gave so much of herself to so many at Sabin K8 school and beyond.
