Oregon’s premier scholastic chess chess event of the year is coming to Seaside, Oregon, April 27-28–the OSCF Championships.
Friday Morning: HS and MS Elite Sections Begin
The event kicks off with High School and Middle School Elite Sections playing their first round (G/55 d/5) beginning Friday morning at 11:00. The second round immediately follows at 1:15 (G/85 d/5). All other players have their first round Saturday morning.
In addition to fabulous prizes and the honor of being named HS or MS “Grand Champion”, first place winners in these sections earn invitations to the Denker (HS) and Barber (MS) Tournaments of Champions, which are two of the most prestigious scholastic tournaments in the country, which will be held in Vancouver, WA this summer. The Denker and Barber have no entry fees, award funds for travel expenses, give half-off US Open entry fee, and give scholarships to top finishers.
Friday Evening: Blitz and Bughouse
The blitz (4:00) and bughouse (6:00) tournaments are rambunctious affairs and a great way to shake off pre-tournament jitters with friends. Abundant awards and tons of fun.
Saturday: The Main Event
Check-in for all sections (except MS and HS Elite) ends at 9:00, with play scheduled to begin at 9:30. Fifteen sections defined by age and rating mean that all players will find appropriate competition and reasonably even matches every round.
Saturday: Friends and Family
Parents, friends, siblings, coaches, players who didn’t qualify to play in the main event–all are welcome to play in the “Friends and Family” section that begins its first round about an hour after everyone else has begun.
