Online Registration For State Championship Is Open

Online registration for the 7th Annual OSCF State Chess Championships is open. Check the list of players who have qualified and are invited to the event. We are expecting 300 players for the main event on Saturday, April 28 in Seaside, Oregon. Registering early will help us plan the event to make it the most fun yet.

Play will be divided into sections by age (high school, middle school, elementary school, and primary schoo) and rating. “Grand Champion” titles and large trophy cups will be awarded to winners in the top section in each grade.

ATTN: Middle School Players

NEW THIS YEAR: Winner of the Middle School Open section will earn the honor to represent Oregon in the Barber Tournament of K-8 Champions this summer. The Barber is the most prestigious K-8 tournament in the nation, with each state sending only ONE player to the tournament. This year the event is in nearby Vancouver, Washington, just across the bridge from Portland.

In addition to being the most prestigious, the Barber is generously sponsored by Dewain Barber, The U.S. Chess Trust, The United States Chess Federation, Dwight Barber, and American Chess Equipment, Inc., and there are the following, exceptional perks:

  • zero entry fee
  • travel expenses paid
  • half-price entry to the US Open, also in Vancouver, just after the Barber (regular entry fee is around $150)
  • $2200 in scholarships awarded to top finishers

AGAIN THIS YEAR: The winner of the High School Open section will earn the honor to represent Oregon in the Denker Tournament of High School Champions this summer. The Denker is the most prestigious high school tournament in the nation, with each state sending only ONE player to the tournament.
