Friends and Family @ Seaside

Perhaps you have been watching your scholastic player compete for a year or two and want to try your own hand at the game.  Perhaps there’s a sibling who didn’t qualify this year, but still wants to play some chess in Seaside.  Perhaps you’re an experienced player and want to get in the mix while your players are competing.  In all cases, look no further than the Friends and Family Tournament at the OSCF State Tournament.  You will play 4 games of G/30 chess in one or more sections, depending on the number who register.

The Friends & Family Tournament will take place on Saturday, at the same time as the rest of the tournament.  Registration is $15; you can pay at the Convention Center up through 10:15am on Saturday.  If you’ve prepaid, look for your name on the registration sheet at the main desk at the convention center (under the stairs), and initial so we know you’re playing.  You will play 4 games of G/30 chess (Swiss or Round robin, depending on the number of players) at the same time as Rounds 2-5 of the G/30 “Green Room” scholastic sections, with prizes awarded at the beginning of the first awards ceremony around 5pm.  There are moderate cash prizes for experienced players, and trophies for “reserve” players — generally less experienced students.  Put those chess skills to good use!
