New Chess Club in Hillsboro meets May 6

A new *free* chess club has just started in Hillsboro, meeting at the Brookwood public library.  The club is open to players of all ages.  There will be a mix of activities from instruction, to free play, to game analysis and we hope to eventually start hosting regular (every month or so) rated quads.  For more information, contact Bill Barrese at bllbrrs2020@yahoo.com

13th OSCF State Championship Results and Ratings are posted!

Thanks to everyone who attended the 13th Annual OSCF State Chess Championship last weekend, and a particular thanks to all the volunteers — parents and coaches of players, as well as last year’s OSCF Board, who helped make the event a great success.

In the end, we had 338 players participate in the main event (38 Primary, 137 Elementary, 102 Middle School, and 61 high School). On Friday evening, we had 128 players in the blitz tournament, and 182 players (91 teams) playing bughouse.  We had 26 players in our Friends and Family tournament.

2018 Oregon State Girls Championship in Portland on April 21

Oregon Chess Federation together with Oregon Scholastic Chess Federation would like to invite all the girls to the 2018 Oregon State Girls Championship on April 21 at the Portland Chess Club.
This event will determine Oregon’s nominees the most prestigious national girls scholastic events:
The SPFGI (Susan Polgar Foundation Girls Invitational) and the NGTOC (National Girls Tournament of Champions).
Time Control:

A 4 round G/55 + 5 seconds increment Swiss for Championship section.

A 4 rounds G/40 + 5 seconds delay Swiss for Reserve section

Eligibility
Championship section open to all junior girls in Oregon State, Reserve section open Oregon residents and out of state players.
Players must be under 19 as of Jun 14, 2018.
Ratings and membership requirment

Championship section: USCF membership required.  Dual rated, both USCF and NWSRS.

Reserve section: NWSRS rated (no membership required).
Equipment

Clocks and notation required – clocks and score sheets will be provided.

Round times:
Championship: 9:00am11:15pm1:30pm, and 3:45pm.
Reserve: 8:45am10:30am12:45pm2:15pm
Prizes
Championship section:
  • Equally divided bursary for the first two places who will represent Oregon State in 2018 US Chess National Girls Tournament of Champions and 2018 Susan Polgar Foundation Girls Invitational.

  • The final amount of those bursaries will result by subtracting the expenses from the total amount of the entrée fees of this tournament.

  • In case of a tie for 1st and/or 2nd a playoff round with G/15 white, G/12 black with draw odds will determine winner.

  • Plaques for 1st-5th Places (3rd to 5th place tiebreak will be used)

  • Champion will have the 1st choice to pick the tournament.

Reserve section:

  • Trophies for 1st-5th Places

  • Reserve Champion will also receive one year USCF Membership (Young adult, Youth or Scholastic – depending on the age of the player). Same tiebreaker as in the top section.

Entry fee: pre-payment $25 before April 15th, $30 after or paying at the door.

Must pre-register. Registration deadline is April 20th at 5:00 PM (no registrations accepted after the deadline).

Spring into Chess Tournament on April 21 in Klamath Falls

Hosted by the New Horizon Chess Club

This event is open to any age and will be NWSRA rated. Chess piece keychains will be given to all participants & trophies will be awarded.

Cost:  $10.00 for pre-registered players in K-Adult age groups.  A fee of $15.00 will be charged at the door for any late registrations. Fees can be paid the day of the tournament.

Early registration is due by Friday, April 20, 2018 by 5:00pm.
