January 3, 2014: Bethany Chess Odyssey Friday Night Quads!  The Friday night event at Bethany Presbyterian picks up a regular schedule with the new year, meeting every other Friday starting Jan. 3 (and again Jan. 17).  Check the NWSRS Calendar to be sure, and for details.

January 4-5, 2014:  The Portland Chess Club hosts the Gresham Open.  This two-day event for adults and more advanced scholastic players takes place at Portland Community College in Gresham.  Details can be found on this flyer.

January 5, 2014:  Silver Knights Quads in Happy Valley — see post above.

January 11, 2014:  The Metzger Winter Open is Back!  The fourth year of this tournament conveniently located (for Portlanders!) near the Washington Square Mall takes place on Saturday, January 11.  This is an OSCF State Qualifier for players of all levels K-12 — there are Team Trophies, Individual Trophies, and G/60 Cash Prizes!  See this page for more details, and to register online, click here.

Here’s to a great New Year of Chess!

Winter Break – and January – Chess!

For those of you looking to play a little chess over the winter break, you could start out at the Chess Odyssey Friday Night Quads on December 20. In January, Jeff Risher and the Metzger Chess Club return with the Metzger Winter Classic on the 11th (registration details will be up soon).

If you’re up for a challenge, try one of the three coming Portland Chess Club Events: The Winter Open on December 14-15, the Portland Chess Club Monthly G/60 on Saturday, December 28, and the Gresham Open on January 4-5, 2014.

For more details on these and other events, please visit the NWSRS Calendar.
